Help! What's an Applet? Why isn't it working?
Check Your Java and PowerAlert Versions
PowerAlert expects at least Java version 1.6.0_10. It will not run under older versions.
If the applet fails to load, try reloading the page to ensure you have the latest version of the
html; this is usually accomplished by simply pressing the Reload button.
Forcing a Reload
If you have previously loaded a version of the PowerAlert applet, you might need to force a new
download by clearing the Java cache. The Java plugin caches files seperately from the browser so the
above-mentioned reload will fetch fresh copies of web pages but it might not get the latest version
of the applet. To force a fresh applet download, open the Java Control Panel and empty the Java
cache.
On Windows this is a component of the Windows control panel.
The Java Control Panel looks much the same on all operating systems. Select the
General tab, click on Settings, and then click on Delete Files. Delete the
contents of the cache. Press the Apply button before exiting the Java Control
Panel as some versions have a bug that will not commit changes otherwise. You must
restart your browser for the changes to take effect. Do not disable the Java cache
as it greatly improves applet loading times.
Applet Loads But Does Not Run
If you see something like
the Java plugin is probably running but the PowerAlert
applet did not download or failed to start correctly. See the
Getting
Help
section.
Applet Does Not Load
Your browser must support Java. All major browsers do, but you will need to download the Java plugin.
You must also enable Javascript, which is generally enabled by default. This help page and the
PowerAlert applet both require Javascript.
Internet Explorer: If you get a message regarding blocked content, or "restricted this page from
running", or words to that effect you might simply need to click the "enable" button.
All browsers: If you see a warning that says something like "needs permission to run", that's normal.
Press the button that gives permission.
General Troubleshooting
Your browser is running the correct generation of the Java plugin.
It looks like your browser is running the older Java plugin. If you are
seeing a "needs your permission" warning for this page, give permission
and reload the page to clear the warning and possibly this message.
It looks like you do not have a recent enough version of java
installed and enabled. If you are seeing a "needs your permission"
warning for this page, grant permission and reload the page to clear
the warning and possibly remove this message.
The above Java detection does not function correctly on every browser. If you are seeing failures try
clicking here to test if Java is
installed properly. If this
test succeeds, ignore the above warning. This page also provides configuration and troubleshooting
instructions.
You can also try
Oracle's Java test page. If
you don't want to use Java 7 ignore the "old version of Java has been detected" warning and click the
"test the currently installed version" link.
Note: Popup blockers sometimes block attempts to download plugins.
Safari
PowerAlert does not support Safari on Windows. Safari on Macintosh works correctly using Java 6.
However Apple has dropped their support of Java, which is to be replaced by an open source port
supported by Oracle. As of this writing their is no working Java 7 for Macintosh.
